Lenovo reviews : Lenovo boosts battery in convertible tablet/laptop

laptop battery power news post by batterylaptoppower.com

Lenovo's newest tablet/notebook features Intel's Sandy Bridge architecture and longer battery life.
Announced today, the Thinkpad X220 convertible tablet/notebook will join Lenovo's upcoming X220 notebook. Both products are the latest additions to the company's X series of ultraportable notebooks and tablet/notebooks with 12.5-inch screens, and both are slated to reach store shelves next month.

http://www.batterylaptoppower.com/ - Wholesaler & distributor of laptop batteries replacement for Compaq, HP, Dell, Acer, Sony, IBM, Toshiba. Our notebook batteries are made from high quality battery cells, which offer the quality and capacity as their (Original Equipment Manufacturer) counterparts. We guarantee our laptop batteries for full 1 year warranty and 30-day money back on every laptop battery.

The X220 convertible starts at $1,199, while the notebook's starting price is $899. Though Lenovo is targeting both computers to individuals as well as companies, they are designed primarily for business users.
Outfitted with Sandy Bridge, the X220 convertible offers a choice of an i3, i5, or i7 processor. Buyers can opt for either a solid state drive with up to 160GB of storage or a conventional hard drive with up to 320GB. Memory can go as high as 8GB. It weighs in at 3.88 pounds.

Like the notebook, the X220 convertible includes three USB ports, with one designed as an always-on port so people can charge a phone or other device without powering up the computer. A 720p HD Webcam, digital microphone, and an Intel Wi-Fi/WiMax adapter are included as well.

Notable to both the convertible and the notebook Lenovo 3000 v200 battery  thinkpad t60 battery are sharp boosts in battery life. The X220 notebook offers 15 hours of battery life with a 9-cell battery--and up to 23 hours when a 6-cell external battery pack is added. The battery life on the convertible is lower, but it still offers 9 hours of life with a 6-cell battery--and 16 hours by adding on the 6-cell external pack.

The convertible's predecessor, the X201, offers 3.5 hours of battery life with a four-cell battery and 7.9 hours with an eight-cell battery.
Preston Taylor, worldwide product marketing manager for Lenovo's ThinkPad brand, said in an interview that Lenovo relied on both Intel and its own team to coax the boost in battery life over previous models. The enhanced power management found in Intel's Sandy Bridge architecture accounted for about 50 percent of the increase in battery life. But the other 50 percent came directly from Lenovo.

Lenovo designed both the convertible and the notebook nc4200 battery Compaq nc6000 battery to dial down or completely turn off unused components to focus on the energy required by the components in use. One example cited by Taylor: if people are streaming videos or music over the Web, they're not using the computer for much else, so there's no need for the hard drive to keep spinning or for some of the ports to keep drawing juice.

Lenovo also outfitted both machines with certain power management features that can extend the life of the battery when it's left with around 90 minutes of power. Even further, people shouldn't see any significant difference in battery usage among the three core processors--the i3, i5, and i7. The battery life itself was tested using the MobileMark 2007 benchmark, according to Taylor, and was done on units with solid state drives and with the power management features turned on.

Consumers eyeing the convertible have a choice of two types of displays. A multitouch screen allows input through both fingers and digital pen, while a special outdoor panel is designed for mobile workers who need to use the tablet outside. The outdoor panel doesn't offer the finger touch option but instead is optimized to reflect light so the screen is visible even in bright sunlight. It also uses Corning's Gorilla glass, which is more durable and scratch-resistant than other types of glass panels. Both panels also offer in-plane switching, which provides a better view of the screen from wider angles.

Like other convertibles, the X220 transforms from a notebook Asus a32-f3 battery Asus a32-f5 battery into a tablet by rotating the display and pushing it onto the keyboard. Lenovo wanted to give both the tablet and the notebook a cleaner look and feel, Taylor said. So the old-style latches that lock the lid onto the base have been jettisoned in favor of a latchless design. Using a new pinching mechanism, the lid automatically closes shut when it comes close to the keyboard. This new design also helped Lenovo bump up the size of the touch pad by 45 percent.

The touch pad itself now offers a buttonless design. Instead of clicking on the older-style bottom buttons, users can tap on the touch pad to trigger the left and right button actions. And using a multitouch design, the touch pad accepts various gestures, such as two-finger swipes to scroll up and down the screen.
Surprisingly, though, the tablet and the notebook offer VGA and DisplayPort ports, but no DVI or HDMI connections.

Battery Power News – Affordability of batteries key to solar power

battery care tips post by goodlaptopbattery.co.uk
Future batteries used by the energy grid to store power from the wind and sun must be reliable, durable and safe, but affordability is really the key to widespread deployment, according to a new report published online March 4 in the journal Chemical Reviews.
The report is one of the most comprehensive reviews of electrochemical energy storage to date. In the report, researchers from the Department of Energy’s Pacific Northwest National Laboratory say that successful electrochemical energy storage, or EES, systems will need to evolve – in some cases, considerably – if they are going to compete financially with the cost of natural gas production. And besides technical improvements, the systems will need to be built to last, using materials that are safe and durable so that Cheap Laptop batteries could operate more than 15 years and require very little maintenance over their lifetime.
The report provides a comprehensive review of four stationary storage systems — ones considered the most promising candidates for EES: vanadium redox flow, sodium-beta alumina membrane, lithium-ion and lead-carbon batteries. In their study, the PNNL researchers note the potential of each technology but, more importantly, explain what advances must occur with each if they’re ultimately to be deployed.
Researchers say continuing to improve battery technology is critical to bringing down the cost and increasing the reliability of batteries.
“By improving EES technologies, industry could tap into a near endless supply of wind and dell vostro 1500 battery Dell latitude d531 battery solar power and drastically reduce the dependence on fossil fuels to meet growing demand for electricity,” said Z. Gary Yang, PNNL laboratory fellow and lead author of the paper.
Yang says with further research, the cost of these battery technologies could be reduced, the performance improved and advances in materials, chemistries, design and system engineering occur.
Without advanced batteries, electricity from wind and solar power must be used the moment it’s produced. The most commonly used battery systems today work by converting electricity to kinetic, or potential, energy and then discharging that energy back to the grid when it’s needed. But these systems, such as flywheels and pumped hydro and compressed air systems, have limiting factors such as lack of portability.
Electrochemical energy storage systems, on the other hand, can efficiently store electricity in chemicals and then release it upon demand. The electrochemical energy storage systems work similar to a traditional household battery dell latitude d620 battery vostro 1510 battery , but at a much larger scale, and use a variety of materials, like carbon, aluminum and even salt.
Like lead-acid batteries in a flashlight, batteries that store wind and solar power take in the electricity as it’s produced and convert it to chemical energy, stored in the form of a liquid or solution. When the energy is needed from the battery, an electric charge starts the chemical conversion of energy back into electrons, which then move back into a power line on the electric grid.
The leaders of the battery “pack”
Vanadium redox flow battery
Vanadium redox flow battery is a type of rechargeable battery that stores electrical energy in two tanks of electrolytes, or fluids that conducts electricity. Researchers conducting the study say redox-flow technology could be a good candidate for backup energy storage for durations of up to 12 hours, and could integrate wind and solar power in a residential neighborhood or at several large industrial sites.
When energy is needed, the liquid is pumped from one tank to another. During this slow and steady process the chemical energy from the electrolyte is converted to electrical energy. When energy needs to be stored, the process is reversed. The amount of energy the battery can store is determined by the size of the tank and the amount of electrolyte it can hold. Researchers say this technology has potential if it can be made in a variety of sizes, portable and affordable.
Sodium-beta alumina membrane battery
The sodium-beta alumina membrane battery is typically built in a tubular design, and uses elements such as sulfur combined with sodium to reversibly charge and discharge electricity using sodium ions layered in aluminum oxide within the battery’s core. Researchers say the battery shows potential to store lots of energy in a small space and that its high energy density and rapid rate of charge and discharge make it a candidate for powering electric vehicles and for other applications that require short, potent bursts of energy.
However, materials are expensive and there are safety concerns with the high operating temperature of the battery. PNNL researchers say modifying the shape of the battery can improve efficiency, lower the operating temperature and cost. In fact, PNNL and company EaglePicher Technologies, LLC of Joplin, Mo., are studying these improvements as part of DOE’s Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy, or ARPA-E, program.

  • Lithium-ion battery
Lithium-ion, or Li-ion batteries are most commonly found in household gadgets and now electric vehicles. Li-ion batteries store electrical energy in various compounds, comprised of layers of different elements, such as lithium, manganese and cobalt. High energy and power capacity over other technologies has made Li-ion batteries the most promising option for transportation applications like electric vehicles.
Researchers say bringing down materials cost and improving safety could vastly improve Li-ion batteries and could help accelerate the penetration of electric vehicles, which themselves could serve as back-up storage on the grid.
In a traditional Li-ion Dell studio 1555 battery Dell vostro 1700 battery cell, positively charged lithium ions migrate through a liquid electrolyte, while electrons flow through an external circuit, both moving back and forth from one side to the other. This movement creates and stores energy. Li-ion batteries have been a success for small, mobile electronics such as cell phones and laptop computers, but making them larger is difficult because they are expensive, prone to overheating and can lend themselves to electrical shorting. Scientists say while substantial progress has been made over past years to improve the technology, more work must be done to extend life, improve safety and reduce materials cost for the stationary applications.
    Lead-carbon battery
Lead-carbon batteries are an evolving technology born from the traditional lead-acid battery, commonly used for traditional automobiles and back-up generators. Scientists have found by adding a bit of carbon to traditional lead-acid batteries they can significantly increase the lifespan of the battery. Researchers say lead-carbon batteries could serve as a viable back-up source for wind and solar Dell gw240 battery Dell xps m1330 battery power because of their concentrated power.
During discharge in a traditional lead-acid battery, sulfuric acid reacts with the lead anode and cathode to create lead sulfate. The process reverses during charge. This conversion produces a short, powerful burst of energy, such as needed to jump start a vehicle. But over time, a lead-acid battery can lose its charge due to the gradual crystallization and buildup of lead sulfate within the battery’s core. The corrosive acid also can eat away at a battery’s core.

Adding carbon to the battery seems to minimize or prevent this crystallization from occurring, improving the cycle life and overall lifespan of the battery. Researchers say this technology has potential for storing renewable energy but that more field work is needed to understand the limitations – and to find ways to bring down the cost. The capital cost of the technology remains at $500 per-kilowatt hour and they believe it needs to be reduced to between $150-$200 per-kilowatt hour to be viable.

Big Surprise – IPad 2′s Thinness Takes Samsung Tab-branded competitor

battery care tips post by goodlaptopbattery.co.uk
Company says it’s hard at work trying to make the changes necessary to stay competitive.
It looks like Apple bought itself a bit more time atop the market with the announcement of the iPad 2.  With Android tablets coming on strong and competitors like HP’s webOS and Microsoft’s Windows 7 waiting in the ranks, all eyes were on Apple March 2.  The company delivered an impressive device that shrunk the form factor, increased the processing power, maintained the battery life, and according to numerous unconfirmed reports, will double the amount of RAM to 512 MB.
The iterative hardware improvements weren’t much of a surprise to the electronics industry.  What seemed to take them aback was the form factor.  Lee Don-Joo, executive vice president of mobile devices at South Korean device maker Samsung told South Korea’s publicly funded Yonhap News Agency, “We will have to improve the parts that are inadequate [in our tablets]. Apple made it very thin.”
The iPad 2 is an incredible .35 inches thin — approximately a third of an inch.  That’s approximately 33 percent thinner than the first-gen thickness of 0.5 inch and thinner even than the 0.472 inch Samsung Galaxy Tab.
Samsung’s Galaxy Tab HP pavilion dv2000 battery hp pavilion dv3000 battery was the first major Android tablet to be billed as a possible “iPad slayer”.  However, the device was quite different from Apple’s in its strengths and weaknesses.  While packing superior hardware, it featured a smaller 7.0-inch (diagonal) LCD screen and debuted at nearly $900 USD without contract.  Those factors caused many tablet buyers to stick with the iPad, which had an entry level Wi-Fi-only price of $499 and 9.7-inch screen.

Today Motorola has taken up the Mantle of “iPad killer” with its new Xoom dual-core Android “Honeycomb” tablet.  But Samsung is hungry for mores success of its own, and will soon release a new Honeycomb 10.1-inch tablet of its own, pricing on which hasn’t been confirmed.

Mr. Lee comments, “The 10-inch (tablet) was to be priced higher than the seven-inch but we will have to think that over.”
To put things in perspective, between October and December Samsung sold 2 million Galaxy Tab devices, while Apple sold 15 million iPads between April and December.  That gap becomes more noticeable when you consider how far behind Android devices have left the iPhone in the mobile market.
The iPad 2, like the first generation model, doesn’t exactly pack the most incredible hardware in the world.  What it does do, however, is offer an impressive form factor and equally noteworthy battery Acer aspire 5520 battery Hp pavilion dv6700 battery life.  Both of those marks were complaints about the recent Xoom — it was too bulky/heavy and the battery life fell short of promised figures.
Both metrics are even more critical to tablets than they are to some other mobile devices like laptops.  While you can always plug in a laptop, you seldom run a tablet plugged in, so battery life is essential.  And while your notebook computer rests comfortably on a table or your lap, you actually hold the tablet, so weight becomes a major issue.
And what is equally surprising is that price may be the key thing keeping the iPad as the top selling tablets.  Apple has a long-standing reputation of delivering high-end gadgets, which — according to some — are more than a bit overpriced.  But with the iPad it has delivered a more minimalistic hardware set and a remarkably low hardware price.

    Now Price : $94.56
When it comes to tablets, it’s still Apple’s game to lose.  If it can maintain its mobility edge (battery life, form factor) and price edge it may be able to hold on to its lead even as Android brings out the big guns processing power-wise.

iPad News – Apple unveils thinner, faster, camera-packing iPad 2

new iPad , Apple's Jobs puts on lively iPad 2 show

A thin but energetic Steve Jobs made a surprise return to the spotlight on Wednesday, taking the stage to unveil Apple Inc's new iPad and drawing a standing ovation.

The Silicon Valley legend has been out on medical leave since late January and his reappearance, in trademark turtleneck and jeans, bolstered Apple shares and reassured investors and fans worried about his health.

Defying speculation in some tabloid reports that he was seriously ailing, Jobs took swipes at rivals and mocked competing tablet computers. Striding back and forth across the stage at the Yerba Buena Center, Jobs spoke passionately about the iPad 2's features as No. 2 and heir apparent Tim Cook looked on.
The $499 device is thinner than the iPhone 4 Dell latitude e6400 battery Dell studio xps 1645 battery , twice as fast as the last tablet, camera-equipped, and ships March 11 in the United States and March 25 in 26 more countries. The surprisingly fast roll-out highlights the fierce competition in the tablet market.

"We've been working on this product for a while and I just didn't want to miss today," Jobs told a packed auditorium in San Francisco with his characteristic flair and energy.

A relaxed-looking Jobs lingered near the theater stage for more than 20 minutes after the show wrapped up, chatting amiably with acquaintances and Apple employees.

In the run-up to the event, there had been almost as much speculation about whether Jobs would appear as there was about the device itself.

Jobs, who has been treated for a rare form of pancreatic cancer, remains on medical leave for an undisclosed condition. An Apple sony vgp-bps8a battery sony vgp-bps2b battery spokesman referred questions about his medical leave back to Jobs' statement in January that he planned to remain involved in major strategic decisions for the company.

His appearance on Wednesday comes at a critical moment. Apple is launching the next generation of its ground-breaking tablet computer just as its main adversaries are releasing their first such devices.

"Steve Jobs is the most important asset for Apple without a doubt and that's why investors are so curious about whether he will remain and continue to have an impact," said Robert Lutts, chief investment officer at Cabot Money Management.

"The stock went up after his appearance sony vgp-bps10 battery Sony vgp-bps13 battery  but not as much as it normally would if Apple had a fully healthy CEO."

    IPAD 2 ARRIVES NEXT WEEK

The iPad 2 goes on sale at AT&T Inc and Verizon Wireless, and at $499 is about $100 cheaper than Motorola Mobility's Xoom. Its shares slid 4 percent.

Avian Securities analyst Matthew Thornton said Motorola investors were concerned by both its earlier-than-expected release and its still-aggressive pricing.

"The hardware is as good as anything on the Gateway m505 battery  market, the price is still very aggressive, and the software just buries the competition," said Gartner analyst Van Baker. "They're still the guys to beat by a large margin."
"This does serious damage to the competitors in the market. Xoom now looks like an extraordinarily expensive tablet, and the HP tablet looks under-featured."

Apple sold nearly 15 million iPads in nine months of 2010, two or three times as many as analysts had predicted. The company is expected to sell 30 million or more this year, which would generate close to $20 billion in sales.

That is despite a growing cast of competitors like Motorola, Research in Motion and Hewlett-Packard Co.
Shares of Cupertino, California-based Apple were up 1.2 percent at $353.44 on Nasdaq late Wednesday afternoon.

"It's pretty positive. It's definitely a sign that he's in good gateway s62044l battery Gateway btp-68b3 batteryenough health," said Vijay Rakesh at Sterne Agee.
Tablets are seen as a must-have device for consumers and many businesses over the next few years. Analysts expect the market to surge to more than 50 million units this year, and 200 million units by 2015.
As in the smartphone market, Apple's chief rival is expected to be Google Inc's Android platform, which is free to license and is being used on a number of tablets.

The iPad, along with the iPhone, is expected to fuel Apple's growth over the next several years. The two product lines already make up more than half the company's revenue.

Apple's products tend to be priced at a premium to its rivals, but the iPad has been priced aggressively low versus the competition, both to dominate the market and because the company can leverage its own retail network and pre-bought manufacturing capacity.

That has pinched the company's margins, a problem Apple seems happy to live with if the tablet can deliver such startling growth.

A longer-term problem might be the Compaq nc6000 battery Compaq tc4200 battery question of who might replace Jobs were he to step down -- Cook is the favorite for the top job and has been running Apple in his boss's absence.

But for now, concerns that Jobs might have to exit -- stirred by sensationalist and unsubstantiated tabloid reports -- appear to be allayed by Wednesday's proceedings.
"Investors know his illness is pretty serious, but it's comforting to know that while he's in his supposed leave of absence, he's still involved," said Capital Advisors Growth Fund co-manager Channing Smith. "The new product looks good and the key is they continue to innovate, which is what we want to watch rather than looking at Steve Jobs."

reader questions answered – Hands on photos with the iPad 2

battery care tips post by goodlaptopbattery.co.uk
We were able to get some hands-on time with the new iPad 2 following Wednesday’s announcement in San Francisco. Both the white and black versions were available to play with, as were the new magnet-enhanced iPad covers. We also managed to get answers to some of our reader questions about the device, though Apple wasn’t willing to give up details on a few core curiosities.
First, answers to your questions. Apple confirmed the resolution of the cameras on the iPad 2 are VGA (on the front) and 720p resolution (on the back). The iPad’s screen is also 1024×768—same as the original iPad. The several Apple dell inspiron 6400 inspiron 6000 battery reps that we spoke with in the briefing area were not willing to give up details about how much RAM the device has; one representative said that those details “aren’t important” and that the company would rather keep that under wraps to focus attention on the new A5 processor instead.
Apple representatives also confirmed that iOS 4.3 will be available for the original iPad, and that the new apps (iMovie and GarageBand) will work on the original iPad as well. “Obviously you won’t be able to import video to iMovie in real time on the original iPad,” one rep told us, “but you’ll be able to do that through the USB camera kit. Probably.”
When asked when the Verizon iPhone will get iOS 4.3, the rep said that the company just started shipping that device—not exactly the direct answer we were hoping for. “If history’s an indicator, these things will eventually converge,” he said. He also confirmed that there would be no way to stream your FaceTime conversation via AirPlay, “but that would be an interesting idea!”
An Apple rep demoing FaceTime (I’m in the top corner taking the photo)
Mac developer Colin Barrett asked us to find out if Apple plans to offer any sort of API to let developers determine whether users are using a white or black iPad. “There’s no difference in the OS,” one Apple rep told us. “They are both exactly identical.” So, it seems at least for now, developers who are sticklers for how their apps inspiron 1720 battery d630 battery look will have to accept the stark differences in bezel colors.

As for our own observations, it’s hard to perceive the differences in weight between the first iPad and the iPad 2, but the latter definitely feels thinner.

The device feels fast as well (we had few complaints about the speed of the original iPad). There was no lag in looking at multiple live video streams at once, and our quick dabbling about with iMovie left us impressed. iMovie on the iPad is certainly a lot more usable in terms of being able to create a finished product than iMovie on the iPhone.
As for the new cover, we must admit that it’s pretty cool. Even lifting up the edge of the cover will wake the iPad from sleep, and dropping it back down will put the iPad back to sleep.

A case comparison between new and old iPads
Lefties, prepare to be disappointed. The magnetic iPad cover only clips to the left side of the device—trying to magnetically clip it to the right side (with the home button at the bottom) doesn’t work. I also noticed that several of the leather covers that Apple had out on display were already showing scuff marks; it may be a better idea to stick to the polyurethane covers if you have delicate aesthetic sensibilities.
The speaker is on the sloped part of the back metal casing, as is pretty much every other button or switch. Almost none of the buttons are visible when viewing the iPad 2 straight on.

And, of course, we have a photo of the screen rotation lock settings.
    Finally! Screen rotation lock returns.
We’ll be sure to get our hands on an iPad 2 when it becomes available on March 11, so let us know what other questions you have so we can address them in our review.

Apps News – Top 10 Android apples of January 2011

To say finding the latest and greatest Android apps is a chore would be the biggest understatement of the year so far. And, although welcome, Google’s recent unveiling of what’s frankly a hugely underwhelming web-based Android Market does nothing to change that.
But fear not: mindful of the plight of Fandroids everywhere, Top10.com has once again dived headlong into the depths Android Market to bring you the best apps Acer aspire 5920 battery Ibm thinkpad r60 battery of the recent crop. When we surfaced for air, this is what we came up with.
    1. Smart Folders
    Smart Folders Android
Smart Folders is an, erm, smart way to configure where all your content goes – be it the countless apps clogging up your app launcher, your contacts, favourite radio stations or photo albums – it will organise them all like a neat freak girlfriend or wife.
And you’ll need fret no more about folders congesting your screen. Just long-tap your home screen to bring them up only when you need ‘em.
    2. Discount Calculator
    Discount Calculator Android
Discount Calculator does exactly what it says on the tin. It calculates discounts for you in a snap and spares you the awkwardness of doing it yourself while you’re out shopping.
Simply enter the amount and drag the discount slider to see the difference in real-time. It calculates the tax, too, so you’ll know how much you’re really spending. This really is an indispensable Lenovo 3000 v200 battery tool, especially if you’re a on a budget or not a member of parliament.
    3. Vevo
    Vevo Android
Vevo is essentially YouTube for music. While that might sound a bit redundant, Vevo is, let’s just say, a more ‘legit’ way of checking out the latest and hottest music videos. And with over 25,000 videos from 7,500 artists, it’s a growing collection too.
On top of that, you’ll get a higher quality streaming than YouTube, along with exclusive videos, premieres and playlists for an all round premium music experience.
    4. Touch Calendar
    Touch Calendar Android
Tired of switching between calendar views to see what’s coming up? Touch Calendar can take care of that.
It amalgamates all your calendar events using colour-coded entries laid out in a single zoomable, scrollable screen so you have complete overview of your schedule for the entire month without having to cycle between month, week and day views as you have to with the stock Android calendar.
Of course, you can still search for entries manually, add events including repeating ones, and all that good stuff. But it’s the home screen widget that takes the Asus m50 battery Dell xps m1330 battery cake and makes this a must-have companion for anyone with a relatively busy schedule.
    5. Cricket World Cup 2011
    Cricket World Cup 2011 Android
With the Cricket World Cup less than two weeks away, it’s time to get behind your countrymen and let those Aussies know how much you really loved thumping them in the Ashes and would love to do it again with the whole world watching.
But to do that you’ll need to know what’s going down halfway across the globe. Cricket World Cup 2011 gives you access to news and live commentary as it happens, plus fixtures, results and points tables – all the essentials you need to keep up-to-date with the sport’s biggest event.
You can also access a database of all the participating teams and their entire squad, as well as venues where games will be played, plus records and trivia to test your cricketing knowledge to its very limit.
    6. PES Pro Evolution Soccer 2011
    PES 2011 Android
Don’t like cricket? Then surely you like football. Otherwise you may want to check in with a hormone specialist soon.
Pro Evo, in case you’re not the gamer type, is one of the two long-running football franchises (forgot what the other one is called) and it’s back for another round with an updated roster, improved visuals and better animations to boot.
It’s also home to the prestigious, and exclusive, UEFA Champions League and Europa League tourneys, along with officially licensed clubs from all over the continent.
New players will enjoy the improved AI support, while PES veterans can challenge themselves with the Mitac minote 8060 battery on-screen control pad based on console versions of the title.
Alas, there’s no audio commentary so the offside rule remains a mystery. But other than that, it’s a smashing game all round.
    7. Cover Art Grabber
    Cover Art Grabber Android
If you like ripping music from CDs or procure MP3s in ways that gets copyright lawyers all antsy in their pantsy, then you might notice that not all your music has correct album art or the correct information, if at all. This makes the experience feel rather cheap and naked. And not in a good way.
Grab Cover Art Grabber and it will freely fetch those album arts and correct Id3 Tag information for you so you can have a less guilt-ridden time browsing your collection.
    8. Kongregate Arcade
    Kongregate Android app
Kongregate Arcade is a collection of over 300 free to play Flash-based games for Android smartphones running Froyo and beyond. Essentially, it’s a portal to the mobile Kongregate website (m.kongregate.com) that you can already access from the browser if you have a Flash compatible handset. The app just makes the makes the experience more seamless and convenient.
Although the genius folks in charge of what goes on and stays off the Android Market had the bright idea of pulling the app dv4 1000 battery from the store only a day after its release, it’s back on there now and ready to quench your gaming thirst once more. Better yet, let those iFans know what Flash is capable of and kill two birds with one phone.
    9. Ninja Rush
    Ninja Rush Android
Ninja Rush is a frantic, fast-paced side-scrolling platformer with a simple objective: get your little masked menace as far as possible by jumping and swinging across platforms, while slaughtering as many samurai goons as you can with a healthy supply of shuriken (y’know, those stabby, starry projectiles) that you’ll pick up along the way.
The gameplay is pretty much a case of tapping to jump and double tapping to jump higher. Or tap a dedicated button to throw your ninja rope to escape perilous falls. You can speed up your dude by sliding forward or slow him down by sliding backwards.
It’s an instantly likable title with its charming doodle-like visuals. But best of all is that it’s free, so it’s a complete steal.
    10. Go Launcher EX
    Go Launcher EX Android
Go Launcher EX is essentially an alternative to the stock Android launcher. One that’s smoother, faster and I dare say it, sexier.
While custom skins such as HTC Sense and the abundance of widgets give Android a fair degree of customisability, it ultimately all tends to look all the same, take up too much screen space and worse, hog unnecessary resources that deplete the battery faster than powering the National Grid off a single AAA.
Go launcher EX gives the Android UI a fresh lick of paint to keep the love going with freely downloadable themes, a smoother scrolling experience all round and easier management of folders and tasks in the app drawer.
Of course, you can still install widgets to your heart’s content and they can be resized. And you know what the best part is? It’s gratis. That’s free, for those unversed in Latin.
