A tablet that taps into cloud services
Panasonic’s VIERA tablet series marks the company’s first step towards cloud-based services like video streaming and e-books. The tablets will be built in a range of different sizes, with display sizes ranging from 4″ to 10″. The tablets will tap into IPTV video-on-demand and interactive services, function as a “visual remote control” for your TV, and will provide different viewing angles as a sub-screen while you are watching sports on TV. Panasonic showed off prototypes of the device at CES and consumer-ready models are expected to be ready by 2011. No prices have been announced.
Top-selling mobile phone gets updated with enhanced social networking features
The successor to Samsung’s 30-million selling Star phone will offer consumers a superior social networking experience. Sony’s Dash TV-tablet-digital picture frame-hybrid is unplugged from the wall

Sony’s Dash has been upgraded to include a rechargeable battery so consumers can take the 7″ display with them anywhere in the house. Sony’s Dash sits in the market in between an internet-connected TV, a laptop and a digital picture frame providing wireless real-time internet and services via the more than 1,000 free applications. Dash pricing will be announced shortly before the device goes on sale in summer.

A large clip-on monitor for interchangeable lens digital cameras

Sony’s CLM-V55 is a 5″ WVGA 800 x 480p LCD monitor that attaches to DSLR cameras or compatible HD camcorders and provides enhanced, high-resolution viewing whilst shooting HD video. The monitor will be available from March, however, no details about pricing were available.

Panasonic also unveiled two slim LUMIX FH-Series digital cameras during CES. The 16.1 megapixel LUMIX DMC-FH5 and 14.1 megapixel LUMIX DMC-FH2 both feature retractable 28mm wide-angle LEICA DC lenses with a 4x optical zoom whilst also measuring around 20% slimmer than their predecessors. The slimline cameras record 1280 x 720p HD video, have “MEGA” optical image stabilization, face detection and intelligent ISO control.
